These are the day-to-day thoughts from Pastor Jeff Lawson. I pastor a Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Battle Lake, MN. This blog will hopefully help everyone who desires to pastor a church in a rural setting...

Proper Church Attire?

I'm so thankful for guys like Rick Warren who have helped us to get rid of the old mindset that a preacher must be choked each Sunday by a collar and tie, or even worst yet, covered with some hot itchy robe for church.

Warren holds the Gilda Radner philosophy, "I like to wear clothes that don't itch!" I love that, and I agree 100%!

The way that I see it is that I have to be at my best game on Sunday's. I need to be thinking about what God wants to say through me. I must not be consumed with worrying that my tie does not match my shirt.

Also, who am I dressing to impress? I believe that God would rather me to be myself and not put on some false airs about myself that are not correct. I am a blue jeans and tennis shoes kind of a guy. When I go to conferences and meetings, I try to be Jeff. If I don't, who will? Sure, I do have a few suits and wear them on occasions like funerals and weddings, but not always! I also have some fun cartoon ties that I wear from time to time, but that is rare as well.

So if you visit us at Cornerstone in Boone, please don't come expecting to see the pastor in a suit and tie because you won't find him here...
