The Rural Church

These are the day-to-day thoughts from Pastor Jeff Lawson. I pastor a Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Battle Lake, MN. This blog will hopefully help everyone who desires to pastor a church in a rural setting...

Time Change

Well this is by far in my opinion the worst Sunday on the calendar for pastors. Time change Sunday! We do our best to let our congregations know that it is coming, but inevitably the numbers are few and far between on this Sunday.

I persoanlly think that this is due to the fact that we live such busy lives. We crave a six hour night of sleep. Then Mr. Calendar sneaks up and swipes an hour from us. We really need to slow down!

Can you think of a worst Sunday on the calendar for pastor's?

This year when we did the "spring forward" thing, no one at our church was late to church or missed the morning worship. I was pleasantly amazed. Right off the top of my mind, the Sunday after Thanksgiving is tough. People are either full of turkey and lazy, or in a bad mood because of having been with family members they don't like.

That is hilarious, Brian! I never thought that may be a reason that people don't attend after Thanksgiving. I always thought they were doing their early Christmas shopping!
