Starting Over... Again!!!

This is a picture of our new ministry. It is pretty cool starting over with a new church. Believe me, it tore my heart out to say good-bye to our church family in Hawley. I love them with all of my heart. It was time though for a change. It was best for Hawley and it was best for the Lawson's. I am very excited to hear where God leads them next!

The view here of our church was taken from the high school football field in Boone, Iowa. We have great access to the people in Boone every Friday night. Our possibilities are pretty much unlimited. I was just talking to a guy this afternoon for lunch. He is pumped up as well. My youth guy, Dan has already started to get involved with our youth group cleaning the stadium following the games.

We are moving slowly and trying to get to know everyone, but we are enthusiastic about how God is going to use us to achieve His purpose here in Boone. By the way, we cracked 100 again Sunday morning for I think now four of the five weeks I've been here. We're growing :)

My Team...

Not to be cocky or anything, but has anyone else noticed that "my" Chicago Bears are only one of three undefeated teams this year? They are really looking tough. We all expected them to have an awesome defense this year, but the offense is pretty exciting as well.

Kudos to Rex Grossman on a fine job as starting quarterback. He is doing a bang-up job. The receivers are also catching just about everything thrown to them.

It looks like we will win the central without much of a fight from those ishy Vikings! Go Bears!

Sermon Series

I started my first sermon series yesterday at Cornerstone. I'm calling it "Breaking Away." I'm looking at how we must leave our bad habits and hangups behind us and press toward the future. My church is ready to grow and eager to see God use them in a great way. They just need to know how to do it.

Following the service yesterday I had a fella from the congregation want to talk to me. He took issue with my choice of words. I said in the sermon that I must fully "Commit myself to Christ. He thought I should have used the word submit instead of commit. I disagreed. I don't think we can submit until first we have committed.

There are far too many believers who just "show-up" on Sundays and are no where to be found the rest of the week. they don't serve, they don't give, and they don't for the most part care, unless of course you step on their toes!

It's time for the church to stand up and be the church. Giddy-up Cornerstone! It's time for a fun ride!
