These are the day-to-day thoughts from Pastor Jeff Lawson. I pastor a Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Battle Lake, MN. This blog will hopefully help everyone who desires to pastor a church in a rural setting...

A Broken Heart...

I have been a Cubs fan my entire life. I watched them lose more than 100 games multiple times in the 70's. I was devastated when Leon Durham let the ball roll between his legs and Steve Garvey hit the home run that did us in against San Diego in 1984. I listened to the lame excuses about fan interference when the Florida Marlins shocked us in 2003. Noe of those things compared to what I felt last night.

I admit that in the 7th inning when Lou Pinella brought in Kosuke Fukudome to play center flied after his benching just last game, I turned the TV off! My team for more than 35 years in the play-offs and I turned the TV off and rolled over in disgust. There are no goats or curses or fans that can be blamed. The Cubs suck! It was a very painful series to watch.

I have resolved to not be nearly as interested in baseball next year. The Cubs have officially lost me. They are looking for their golf clubs to spend the next four months playing in the sun, rolling in their disgusting wealth, and millions of people like me are saying stupid things like, "Wait till next year."

Last year was the last time for me. Period.

As someone who was there with Jeff in 1984, etc, I can attest to his love for the Chicago Cubs. Never being a Baseball fan myself, as I simply find it barely above the level of watching grass grow, It does pain me to see Jeff feel this way.

I am sorry Jeff. Baseball in general sucks; it always has. Unless you're playing it, I simply see no redeeming value of watching it.

You can join me in the thrills of the NFL. Go Colts!

Love ya Cousin!
