Someone is Watching

For several years after I left college I worked for a lawn care company.  It was a fun job to be able to be outside most of the time.  I had a 600 gallon truck and worked for multiple companies fertilizing yards and trying my best to keep them green and weed free.
The first company I worked for was Montgomery Lawns.  The owner, Jack attended the same church as I did in Fort Wayne, IN.  His sweet wife Betty had a soft spot for me as I went to the Bible College and worked with the youth at the Gospel Temple.  She helped me to get the job.
One of the things that Jack shared with me that I continue to hold onto was that I needed to be careful in what I did.  People were always watching me.  Now what he was referring to was to be careful not to spray flowers with weed control and not allow my 300 foot hose to wrap around small trees that might snap.
I try to apply that same advice to my life today.  I don’t pick my nose in public.  I don’t rent videos that may be questionable.  I also take the time to smile and say hello to people that I pass.  I think it is good advice to live by.  Perhaps my old boss was thinking of the Apostle Paul’s words to the Philippians when he said, “Only one thing concerns me: Be sure that you live in a way that brings honor to the Good News of Christ…” Philippians 1:27a (NCV)
Christian, people’s eyes are always on us.  They are wondering if we walk the walk to go along with the talk.  Even one public blunder could be enough to shipwreck someone’s faith.  Pray and ask God’s Spirit to convict you of any wrongdoing that may be a part of your life that is causing someone to doubt their faith.  It’s not an easy task but it is terribly important.
