Still Here
With the emergence of Facebook and the ability to write notes there, this column has all but been forgotten. It does not mean though that I have quit writing. I have not put the time into it that I really want to, but hopefully that will change.
Life in Battle Lake is terrific. I just love being in a small town where you feel that you know just about everyone. And... Everyone knows you... This can present other problems though. Let me explain.
My son Josh was here this week to spend time with us. We fished and we golfed and we spent some quality time together. One of the things that he and I love to do together is to go see movies. Adam Sandler is one of our favorites. We can quote lines from a lot of his movies. Where his characters do not appeal to everyone, we think he is funny. We decided to go see his new movie, That's My Boy.
I went to CNN and reviewed the film. It seemed to sound like a typical Sandler movie. It was not! There were many, many "F" Bombs dropped in the opening few moments. Then there was nudity. I looked at Josh, apologized to him, and then asked if we could leave. We walked out of the film. Several days later, I still feel horrible. I should have known better. I should have screened it better. I should've, I should've, I should've...
Back to a small town... Who knows who saw me go into and out of a trashy film like that. I have created the opportunity for the rumor mill to go crazy. I gave the evil one a foothold. Ouch! Life in a small town...
